What Is Ear Wax and Why Do We Have It?
Ear wax (cerumen) is a natural mixture of secretions from tiny glands in your ear canal, along with skin cells and tiny hairs.
A small amount of ear wax is healthy, it traps germs and dust, and its natural antibacterial properties help prevent ear infections.
Your ears are actually self-cleaning! As your jaw moves when you talk or chew, it changes pressure in the ear canal and helps move wax outward naturally. For most people, ear wax looks after itself.
It only becomes a problem when it blocks the ear canal, which can lead to symptoms such as:
Hearing loss
A feeling of fullness or pressure
Itching or irritation
Ringing or noises in the ear (tinnitus)
Balance issues or dizziness
When to Seek Help
While ear wax is natural and usually harmless, sometimes it builds up faster than your ears can clear it. If you notice any of the symptoms above or feel unsure about your ear health, it’s best to get it checked by a professional. Safe, effective removal can quickly relieve discomfort and restore clear hearing.
Don’t wait, book your appointment today and take the first step toward healthier ears!
